In 1970, a group of denominational leaders in Northern California gathered to form United Camps, Conferences & Retreats (UCCR) to manage and operate their respective camp and retreat properties year-round. At that time, camp facilities were underutilized to sufficiently provide financial support for staff and operations. The decision to form a camp & retreat cooperative, in order to share resources, proved to be a fruitful proposition. Since then, UCCR has continued to successfully operate camp and retreat facilities. 

While UCCR has grown to include non-religious non-profit owned sites, most of the properties we manage are still church-owned facilities. Our member denominations include the United Methodist Church, the United Church of Christ, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). 

UCCR fully understands the importance of a camp & retreat facility serving as an outreach of the church’s mission while simultaneously maintaining a balanced budget and stable site operations. While you focus on your mission and programming, UCCR can take on the following: compliance with drinking water systems; compliance with food service; environmental health inspections; wastewater treatment; swimming pool compliance; managing natural resources; human resources for facility (non-program) staff; purchasing food/ janitorial/ maintenance supplies; marketing; reservations & contracts; hospitality and customer service; and accounting functions.
